 MAND’s State Public Policy promotes the health of Maryland citizens particularly when Registered Dietitians & Licensed Nutritionists are heard!  Attend 1 hour of a legislative hearing and see your legislators in action—see WHOM they are learning from.  Understand why you must be involved and how Public Policy impacts our profession!

Target Audience:  Nutrition and Dietetic Students, Dietetic Interns, Registered Dietitians/ Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, Registered Dietetic Technicians, and other Healthcare Professionals are welcomed

The Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as a local affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs), will receive 4.0 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program (requested). If you are coming in on Tuesday night, arrangements have been made with Loews Annapolis Hotel for a reduced rate –AND- information will be sent forthcoming to you personally to join the public policy panel for dinner for all those staying over in Annapolis.

7:45-8:15 AM:  Team Interactive Workshops.  Issues to be discussed with
legislators will be discussed with your team and led by your team leader.  You will be able to ask questions.


8:15-8:45 AM:  Keynote Speaker: “How to Approach Legislators”

Please note Bills and Testimony already given by MAND will be provided to attendees by their Team Leaders before the day of the Workshop.


Program Objective:  Opportunity for Licensed Dietitian/Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist to visit legislators


Learning Objectives:  By the end of the Workshop, attendees will understand:


1.  The importance of active advocacy for the profession of RD’s and the health of Maryland citizens with the State Legislature.


2.  How to refine a political advocacy message for optimum impact—branding yourself


3.  Talking to legislators is fun and impacts our profession!4.  Use dialog to communicate the importance of nutrition in promoting health and learning a legislators’ point of view.


Tuition:  Early Bird Preregistration for MAND member by 1/06/17 at $45.  After 01/06/17,   MAND member is $50.  Non MAND member by 01/13/17 is $60.  Student and/or Dietetic Intern by 01/13/17 is $35 (due to space limitations, registration is limited to the first 75 registrants and preregistration is required).  Deadline is 01/13/17.
