Medifast - Nutrition Support Dietitian - Full-Time

Job Description/Responsibilities/Salary/Benefits:

Position Summary: The Nutrition Support Dietitian will assist clients in identifying, achieving, and maintaining weight management goals. Provide encouragement and education of the Medifast program options to achieve success via phone consultations, response to e-mail questions, internet-based message boards, and occasionally web-based chat sessions.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide nutrition and weight loss counseling via telephone, e-mail, chat, and message boards (or through other client communication tools) taking into consideration individual client needs including age, weight, nutrient requirements, knowledge and abilities, medical, economic and social situation.  Maintains a friendly, professional, caring attitude towards customers and co-workers in all forms of communications.  As varied opportunities present, you may work with Medifast Product Development team testing new products and offering nutritional recommendations to meet customer requirements.   Working in conjunction with our Marketing Department, you will help ensure nutritionally accurate, health-promoting information is provided to the Medifast customer by developing, reviewing or revising marketing materials that contain nutrition information.  To act as Relationship Manager to a new or potential corporate wellness client or physician practice, you may be asked to travel to an off-site location with only minimal notice given.  Support clients from all subsidiaries- Medifast Direct, Take Shape For Life, Medifast Weight Control Centers, Doctors and Corporate Wellness divisions.  Participate in training of Customer Care Representatives and Medifast employees.  Assist with development and on-going support of a corporate employee weight management program and healthy lifestyle promotions.  Establish effective relationships and communicate pertinent nutrition issues with the Medical Team, Marketing Team, Scientific Research, and Research & Product Development Team.
Evaluate outcomes and identify factors that may contribute to undesirable results and report accordingly. Correct deficiencies when able.
May be required to facilitate projects throughout multiple facilities.
All other duties or projects assigned by the Director of Nutrition.

Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to communicate with customers, other members of the team, physicians and co-workers.   Effective oral and written communication skills.   Ability to read, write letters, nutrition articles, summaries and reports, customer responses to questions asked, using prescribed format and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
Ability to effectively present information to audiences with a variety of knowledge/skill levels.  Leadership skills including the ability to work with confidential customer and Medifast information.  Ability to be self-directed, highly organized and proactive. Strong interest in health and wellness.  Must perform responsibilities with minimal supervision
Excellent listening skills.   Flexibility with work schedule.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations.
Ability to interpret and organize data in an effective and useful manner; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Basic computer skills and be familiar with a Windows operating system.

Training Requirements:
Required to attend seminars and/or conferences related to Nutrition, Weight Management and Health/Wellness to maintain licensure in the state of Maryland.

Physical Needs:
Ability to lift 20 lbs
Ability to sit at a computer work station for an extended period of time

Other Requirements:

Bachelors degree (BA) from a 4-year college or university.
Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association and/or Licensed Dietitian/ Nutritionist status in the state of Maryland.
Minimum of one year of recent clinical experience or specific job related experience.

Johns Hopkins University - School of Public Health - Part-Time Dietitian

Job Description/Responsibilities/Salary/Benefits:
Responsible for nutrition assessment and dietary follow-up of participants in the Johns Hopkins Weight Management Center. Acts as a resource to participants and to other team members; makes recommendations regarding nutritional care of participants. Provides nutritional education to participants. Provides education for peers and other members of the multidisciplinary team to enhance the quality of outcomes. Recommends products and services to be offered to participants.

Duties and Responsibilites
Assessments of Participants

Responsible for assessment and follow-up of new and ongoing participants in the weight control programs of the Weight Management Center. The assessment process and plan is individualized, and takes into account the severity of the participants obesity, as well as existing medical comorbidities. The assessment considers the adequacy of nutrient intake, pertinent lab data, medications that affect nutritional status, conditions that affect ingestion, absorption and digestion, food intolerances and food allergies. The initial nutrition assessment considers the participants immediate needs and identifies any cultural, social and spiritual needs that will affect their dietary plan. The participants motivation to learn, physical and cognitive limitations, language and financial barriers are also assessed.

Each participants response to nutrition recommendations is monitored and documented, at an appropriate frequency to their nutritional and medical needs. The dietitian will coordinate care with other team members, including the medical director and staff, behavioral therapist/counselor, and exercise specialist.

Dietitian will also be responsible for monitoring the dietary and medical literature and marketplace to keep abreast of advances in the field of weight control, and to make recommendations to the Center Director regarding specific products and services related to nutritional therapy that should be considered. Dietitian will also be responsible for program materials related to diet therapy, including assessment techniques and forms, and participant educational materials. Dietitian will also coordinate demonstrations and educational materials regarding food and dietary supplement preparation and choices.

Other Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, dietetics or a closely related field. Two years experience. Master's degree with internship may substitute for experience

Position:  Lecturer at University of Maryland

A full-time Lecturer is needed to teach courses and advise students in the Dietetics program. The primary teaching responsibilities of this position include NFSC350: Food Service Operations. The lecture may also teach/assist with NFSC380: Methods of Nutritional Assessment, NFSC491: Issues and Problems in Dietetics, NFSC100: Elements of Nutrition or other courses as assigned. The successful applicant will also assist with the advising of Dietetics students each semester, and will perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the department chair. Frequent interaction with the Dietetics Didactic Program Director is required.

Other requirements:
MS in Nutrition or related area. PhD preferred. Teaching experience at the college level is required. Experience teaching/advising in a Dietetics program and foodservice management experience in a clinical setting preferred.
