Purpose:
The purpose of the Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Grassroots Team (GT) is to provide
a nutrition expert constituent from each of the eight Maryland congressional districts who can
represent the food and nutrition related needs of that district.

Mission of GT:
Empower members to be Maryland’s food and nutrition leaders in legislation and public policy.

Vision of GT:
Optimize the health and well-being of Marylanders and Americans through food and nutrition
policy and legislation.

Customer Focus:
Meets the needs and exceeds the expectations of members, the public,
members of congress and their staff.

Integrity: Act professionally as representative for district, Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietics, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  

Commitment to Excellence:
Provide evidence based information to members of
congress in the pursuit of improving the public’s health and well-being while promoting
the RD as the nutrition expert.

Social Responsibility: Communicate legislative decisions with considerations
for inclusion, diversity,and bipartisan support.


Position Description
Title: 
Grassroots Team Liaison (GTL) District 1-8 of the Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

Time Commitment:  Term length 2 years in alignment with congressional terms.
Weekly responsibility may include responding to emails or attending meetings.

Responsibilities include:
Report to Grassroots Team Coordinator (GTC)/Public Policy Coordinator (PPC);
Respond to Academy Action Alerts;
Attend town hall meetings in your district when available;
Highly encouraged to attend annual Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Public Policy Workshop (PPW);
Communicate legislative and public policy updates to colleagues in district.

Requirements:
Must be an Academy member;
Respond quickly to emails and Academy Action Alerts;
Must live and/or vote in congressional district represented;
Be willing and available to participate at PPW

Position Perks:
Build relationships with congressional leaders;
Support the mission of the Maryland Academy and GT;
$100 toward participation at PPW

Position Selection Process:
Interested candidates will be chosen by the Maryland Academy Public Policy Panel on first come
first serve basis who fit the eligibility requirements. Priority will be given to RD applicants.
