Win $500 toward Public Policy Workshop!

The Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MAND) is offering $500 scholarships to support members to attend the Academy’s annual Public Policy Workshop (PPW) held March 10 to 12, 2013 at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, D.C.
 
These scholarships are for members interested in public policy, no matter their level of policy experience, to go toward registration and related expenses (gas, hotel). This year registration is $495, which closes February 22, 2013. SAVE $55 if you register by February 8. SAVE ANOTHER $100 through the MAND group discount (contact bmchrist@cord.edu for details). The $155 in total savings would allow you to use the remainder of the $500 scholarship toward hotel, for example, should you be a winner.

The MAND Public Policy Panel will review scholarships. Winners will be notified by March 1, 2013. Reimbursement checks of $500 will be issued following PPW and the awardees submission of a brief summary of Workshop experience submitted to the MAND newsletter, Chesapeake Lines, as well as receipts for up to $500 submitted to MAND Treasurer, Chris Goglia (reimbursement form will be provided at PPW).
 
All applicants are advised to register early to take advantage of savings.

FREE Public Policy CEU Networking Events Kick-Off!

Back by popular demand! The Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MAND) Public Policy Panel members are hosting a FREE Public Policy Networking Event Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 7:00-9:00pm at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, D.C. (room location to be announced by text or email on March 10, 2013).

As part of the Academy’s annual Public Policy Workshop (PPW), an evening of policy discussion and 1.5 CEUs is welcome to all MAND members from all corners of Maryland whether you plan to attend PPW or not.

Wine, beverages, and light refreshments will be served!

Objectives:
1) Network with fellow MAND members!
2) Hear from MAND Public Policy leaders on Maryland hot topics including: Maryland’s health care reform Essential Health Benefits inclusion of MNT, reimbursement, and Maryland licensure for dietitian-nutritionists.
3) Be more familiar with federal bills to be discussed at PPW Capitol Hill visits, with a Maryland focus.
4) Discuss the political climate of the 113th Congress.
5) Be able to identify Academy framework of public policy decisions including layout of the Legislative and Public Policy Committee (LPPC) and Academy Political Action Committee (ANDPAC).

As part of National Nutrition Month and RD Day, March 10th is the Kick-Off Networking Event to celebrate RDs, MAND members, and learn about how nutrition policy affects you and the people you work with.
