MAND’s State Public Policy promotes the health of Maryland citizens particularly when Registered Dietitians & Licensed Nutritionists are heard! Attend 1 hour of a legislative hearing and see your legislators in action—see WHOM they are learning from! Understand why you must be involved and how Public Policy impacts our profession!
Location: St. John’s College Campus: Francis Scott Key Lobby of the Auditorium (click here for map)
Target Audience: Registered Dietitians/Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, Registered Dietetic Technicians, Nutrition and Dietetic Students, Dietetic Interns, and other Healthcare Professionals are welcomed.
Program Objective: Opportunity for Licensed Dietitian/Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist to visit legislators
Learning Objectives: By the end of the Workshop, attendees will understand:
- The importance of active advocacy for the profession of RD’s and the health of Maryland citizens with the State Legislature.
- How to refine a political advocacy message for optimum impact—branding yourself.
- Talking to legislators is fun and impacts our profession.
- Use dialog to communicate the importance of nutrition in promoting health and learning a legislators’ point of view.
Continental breakfast, coffee service, and boxed lunch provided. Vegetarian/vegan and gluten free options will be offered.
- MAND members: $65
- Non MAND member: $75
- Student/Dietetic Intern/Retiree: $35. (Students/interns do not have to be MAND members)
Due to space limitations, registration is limited to the first 100 registrants. Registration Deadline is 01/23/19. On-site registration will NOT be available. We will have a list of pre-registrants at the sign in table. Our signup system allows for only one registration per order. Please contact email@example.com to make arrangements to register multiple people or if you need an invoice for a purchase order.
Refund Policy: If you need to cancel for any reason, a full refund will be offered until 01/23/19. After 1/23/19 and up until 1 week prior to the event (2/06/19) we will provide a 50% partial refund. No refund is available for no shows or those who cancel after 02/06/19.
Continuing Education Credits: 5.0 CEUs
The Maryland Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as a local affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs), will receive 5.0 continuing professional education units (CPEU’s) for completion of this program. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials. A CEU certificate will be provided to all attendees.
Reduced Room Rates:
We have negotiated a block for rooms for the rate of $119 a night for the night of 02/12. Parking is $15 for valet and $12 for self-park. You may leave your car at the hotel during the event. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the event.

All reservations within this block must be made prior to January 25, 2019. The cancellation of guaranteed reservations must be received 24 hours prior to arrival to avoid a charge of one night’s room and tax.
Consider joining us for drinks and a casual dinner on Tuesday evening at BAROAK (in the lobby of The Hotel Annapolis). A dinner RSVP will be sent out to all attendees. Locals and those staying overnight…please join us!

For budget conscious parkers, the lot at the Navy Marine Corp stadium offers offsite parking for $5. http://www.pinnacleparking.com/public_parking.htm Please note that this parking option is not walkable. If you choose this option, please factor in time to take a shuttle into downtown.
Wear comfy shoes! We will be walking from the college to the Maryland State Legislative Offices (60 College Avenue Annapolis, MD 21401). Please dress in business attire (more formal than business casual please - - a suit is nice but anything professional looking will work). You may also consider wearing any pins or swag that represent our profession or state (such as an RDN pin or a Maryland flag scarf).
If you have them, personal business cards to leave with legislators. Each team has 4 to 7 meetings with legislators.
